I'm Calum Childs.

I'm a web developer who has built websites using WordPress, Laravel and JavaScript. When I'm not coding, I'm either out on a country walk, reading a good book or spending time with my friends and family.

Web Development

I've developed many websites since I found a passion for creating them in 2017. Some of these have been personal projects (such as Homework Help For Kids and Gumdrop Social) while others have been made for clients (such as Aircraft Buyer and Emaes Fit).

Most of the websites I've developed have been made using WordPress, but I've also used other back-end technologies, such as Laravel and Python, as well as front-end technologies such as Vue, SASS and vanilla JavaScript.

I'm always looking to learn new technologies and improve my knowledge in ones that I've used before. Currently, I'm exploring React, WordPress block development and Next.js.

Hobbies

Photography

I've loved taking photographs since I got my first camera. I mostly take photos of landscapes and nature, but I've also done photography in towns and cities! As well as taking the initial photograph, I also love playing around with the settings in Photoshop and Lightroom to make the photograph the best it can be.

Below are some of my favourite photos:

Nature Lover

Ever since I was little, my parents and I have regularly explored the natural world. I believe that being in nature can do a lot of good (I say this as I'm sitting on a park bench on a winter's afternoon.) I love the natural changes brought about the change of seasons - the daffodils in March, the bluebells in May and the stunning and vibrant colours of autumn.

Bookworm

To read, or not to read. That is the question. And, for me, anyway, to read has always been the answer.

From a young age, I have always loved reading books from a variety of genres - adventure, action, fantasy, drama, sci-fi, comedy, to name a few. I also read a variety of non-fiction books, some of which taught me how to code websites (I learned the basics of coding a WordPress theme from a book!)

Work Experience & Education

As well as making a range of websites for clients, I have worked as a Student Ambassador whilst studying at the University of Suffolk.
